T&F India was all geared up for its first journal launch that took place on 28 June 2011. The journal, Innovation and Development, has its base in Center for Development Studies, Thiruvannathapuram, Kerala, with Prof KJ Joseph as the Editor-in-Chief.
The journal launch was planned around the International Seminar of Innovation, Sustainability and Development, organized by NISTAD, CDS, and STEPS that was being held from 28 to 30 June. This allowed us to invite the participants of the seminar to attend the journal launch as well.
The Chief Guest of this event was Mr Jairam Ramesh, Hon’ble Minister for Environment & Forests. The Chair for the event was Prof NR Madhava Menon, Dr S Radhakrishnan Chair, CDS & Member Governing Body. The other panelists were Prof GK Chadha, President SAARC University; Prof Deepak Nayyar, JNU & Former Vice Chancellor Delhi University; Prof Ashok Parthasarathi, Former Secretary to Govt of India & Professor JNU; Dr Parthsarathi Banerjee Director NISTADS; and Dr Rajeswari Raina, Scientist NISTADS.
Our focus at this launch was to invite a limited but relevant group of people. And with IIC announcing the journal launch on its notice board as well, we saw a good turnout with approximately 125 people who attended the launch.
We were happy to note that people had started coming in by 6:30 pm though the launch was scheduled to start at 7:00 pm. Once the Chief Guest, Mr. Jairam Ramesh came, he unveiled the journal almost immediately after everybody had settled in. At this point of time, only the panelists were given a copy of the journal each. The panelists spoke on what innovation and development meant to them in their areas of study and their expectations from the journal. They expressed their joy and expectations from this collaboration between CDS, Kerala, and Routledge and wished long and successful years to the journal.
Soon after the concluding remarks by the Chair, Mr Madhava Menon, all participants were invited to collect Informa World folders that contained a free copy of the journal, a flyer with information of the journal and a subscription form from the registration counter and proceed for cocktails and dinner.
During the cocktail and dinner, the T&F staff got to interact with some of the speakers and guests. Prof. KJ Joseph expressed his satisfaction at the way the event unraveled.
