Routledge India Originals Editorial Strategy Meeting

Taylor & Francis books concluded its first ever Routledge India Originals Editorial Strategy Meeting from 5^th-7^th September 2011, at The Sirmour Retreat, District Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh. The meeting started with opening remarks by Mr. Shammi Manik followed by individual presentations by M. Gopinath, Pankaj Bhardwaj, Nilanjan Sarkar, Shoma Chaudhary, Shafina Segon, Aman Pilani, Rimina Mohapatra and the RIO editorial Team focusing on strategy development of the RIO programme 2012 and the projects-in-hand. After the presentations a Round table session was held with its focus on queries and concerns of and about authors, typesetting, print runs, time management of scripts, copyediting, sales, retail stores, promotions, book launches…. The meeting ended with the quiz played by everyone about Routledge India Originals organised by the marketing team.

Green Week - 12 Sep 2011 - 16 Sep 2011

The Green Week was celebrated from 12 to 16 Sept 2011 in Taylor & Francis Office. A green office is everyone’s business, and small steps can lead to great benefits. A lot of new initiatives; whether turning off lights in unused spaces or replacing fluorescent lights with energy efficient lighting and where appropriate using both sides of paper when printing or providing recycle bins throughout the workplace to recycle paper were committed to. Like last year, there were loads of activities followed by PRIZES. The whole office was decorated with posters.

We celebrated it as:

1. Make a Start Monday: We sent out information about the Green Week, welcoming everyone and encouraging people to participate in it. Forthcoming activities were announced: games, quizzes, fun activities and much more! The first of the daily tips to help create a green office were circulated. We launched the Eco-Friendly Quiz today. 
2. Choose Right Tuesday: We signed a pledge to bring in conscious changes into our lives; to make the planet a better place to live. We circulated  a Low Carbon Lifestyle booklet which contains tips to use equipment and other material in our day to day life and save energy. 
3. Waste Not Wednesday: Let’s encourage each other to reduce, reuse and recycle to make difference to the environment and save money. We did this by creating a pledge that everyone signed in the office, which was sent to the ministry of environment as T&F India’s commitment to making this world a better place to live in. 
4. Think Ahead Thursday: The aim of the day was to get the staff to review their purchasing habits and switch to eco-friendly products besides creating more greener work spaces and office areas. We gifted a plant each to every staff member.\
5. Friday – Feel Good: Everyone celebrated their success stories from the week.

The Making of a Modern Indian Artist – Craftsman: DEVI PRASAD Book Launch

The book ‘The Making of a Modern Indian Artist – Craftsman: DEVI PRASAD’ by Dr. Naman P. Ahuja was launched in New Delhi on Friday, 16th September 2011 at The India International Centre, Lodhi Road. 

The event was attended by more than 120 people and the audience was a very select niche sect of artists, ceramic designers, potters, sculptors and the who’s who of the art world including professors, academicians from Modern Indian History, International Peace Movement, people from different art Galleries, Authors and friends to show their support.

Mr. Manik gave the welcome note, which was followed by the lighting of lamp by Smt. Bindu Prasad, wife of Late Shri Devi Prasad and book release. We screened a 40 minute film; ‘Devi Prasad: A Portrait’ followed by a book introduction by the author, Dr. Naman P. Ahuja.

A very successful launch; we sold 31 copies and generated innumerable order forms. The author smile says it all in the pictures.

We are all smiles too!! Gearing up for the book launch of Gandhi on 10th October 2011. Keeping fingers crossed….

Books Strategy Meeting - 30th August 2011

We recently concluded the Books Strategy Meeting on 30th August 2011. The meeting started with a presentation by Ryan Cooper and was taken further by M. Gopinath followed by respective representatives of sales team. A lot of fruitful discussions were undertaken with emphasis on how to make way for Routledge's image as a serious textbook player in the India market. The team shared their status vis a vis business priorities for 2011. It ended with the quiz played by sales team about Routledge Classic organised by the marketing team.

Pakistan: From the Rhetoric of Democracy to the Rise of Militancy, Book Launch

We successfully launched Pakistan: From the Rhetoric of Democracy to the Rise of Militancy edited by Prof. Ravi Kalia in New Delhi on Tuesday, 23rd August 2011 at The India International Centre, Lodhi Road.

The event was attended by more than 50 people which included professors, academicians from history, political science & international relations, people from defence services, authors and friends. Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Union Minister of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India was the chief guest and released the book. The panel also consisted of Dr. Srinath Raghavan – Senior Fellow, Centre for Policy Research, New Delhi and Dr. Tahmina Rashid – Faculty of Arts & Design, University of Canberra, Australia.

57th All India Library Conference - ILA 2011

57th All India Library Conference -ILA 2011 took place at O. P. Jindal University, Sonipat, Haryana from July 21, 2011-July 23, 2011. Mr. Pradeep Jain Aditya, Hon’ble Minister of State for Rural Development, Government of India was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the event at Global Auditorium Academic Building T-1 Block First Floor). The theme of the conference was Development & Management of Public Libraries; Impact on Collection, Access and Delivery of Services; Marketing and Promotion of Public Library Services and Human Resources Management in Public Libraries. The conference aimed at Library professionals, particularly those working or having interest in public library services.

Other participants were Oxford University Press, Sage Publications, Cambridge. The Conference was attended by library and information science professionals, ICT and knowledge workers like content developers, web designers etc.,  Policy makers and government officials,  Educationists, Managing Director/CEO of various Telecom companies, Institute Directors, Professors Researcher, Librarians.

The conference was a successful and a wonderful experience. The customers were interested in receiving the regular updates about our new releases. Many of them left their contact details with us. As a result we have got a sustainable good database. We look forward to more challenging conferences in the future.
