New Joinees in the T&F India Club

The T&F India Club announces the new joinees:

1. Bhavita Daga joins us as the new Activity-In-Charge. She has always been an integral part of our team supporting Bhawna Chauhan. She comes from the BIS team.

2. Swati Gambhir joins us from the Europa World Statistics team as the new Activity-In-Charge. Along with the regular club activities, her primary responsibility will be designing and updating our Cafeteria display board on monthly basis.

3. Shikha Garg from the Europa World of Learning and a self-professed foodie joins us as the Food and Hospitality In-Charge. We look forward to more delicious moments!!

4. Anveshi Gupta from Europa World Directory joins us as the new Media-In-Charge, primarily responsible for regularly updating the T&F India Facebook page as well as the T&F India food blog.

Dr Bruce Alberts

Our celebrity Garland Science author, Dr Bruce Alberts visited Taylor & Francis New Delhi office last week. Although Dr. Bruce Alberts needs no introduction to the scientists & researcher community in Biochemistry & life sciences; he is best known to us for authoring MBOC-Molecular Biology of the Cell – running in its 6th edition and first published in 1983!

Bruce Alberts, a prominent biochemist with a strong commitment to the improvement of science and mathematics education, was awarded the National Medal of Science by President Barack Obama in 2014. He is now the Chancellor’s Leadership Chair in Biochemistry and Biophysics for Science and Education at the University of California, San Francisco, to which he returned after serving two six-year terms as the president of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). Most recently in India, he was presented with Dr. M. S. Swaminathan Award for Environment Protection 2015 in Chennai! While in Chennai, to receive the award, Sankar (Sr. territory Manager) and the Books Marketing team had organized an Author Talk in Anna University Chennai. This was followed by an editorial workshop by Renu Upadhyay – Assistant commissioning editor (seen here in the photo with Dr Albert). 

While in our office, he interacted with our colleagues from Sales, marketing and editorial and explained the way science is taught (and learned) across nations. He shared his desire to explore and to learn the mysteries of the cell and bring the student along on their journey of discovery. “Any publisher is good if the writers are creative and zealous,’ said Gagandeep Sing, senior commissioning editor, CRC press, Taylor & Francis group.

Speaking at a workshop on scientific and technical book writing skills organised by the Knowledge Resource Centre of GITAM University on Saturday, he said that in spite of e-books, the printed books were in great demand as they were comfortable and convenient to read. He later explained the issues related to agreement, royalty, and deadlines of submission.

Regional publishing manager of The Taylor & Francis, Anindita Pandey, gave a presentation on publishing a research paper and the various stages of submission of research paper.

She stressed on the importance of understanding the scope and aim of a journal and selecting the right journal.

During the day-long workshop, both the speakers mainly focused on scientific and technical publishing process, gave valuable guidance on preparing and submitting proposals, publishing articles in academic journals, publishing ethics, peer-review process, contracts, copyrights and royalties.

Inaugurating the workshop, Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University G. Subrahmanyam suggested the scholars and faculty of the university to enhance their resources significantly and publish their works through books and journals.

GITAM University librarian Nagaratnamani and others participated in the workshop.
