Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad Book Exhibition

Taylor & Francis India had participated in a book exhibition organised by Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad during the 6th Doctorial Colloquium from 7^th – 9^th January, 2013 with our local distributor Books India, Ahmedabad. There were more than 70 management institutes, 3 Publishers (Taylor & Francis, Sage Publication and Cengage Learning) and 6 library suppliers (Astha Book Agency, Baroda Book Corporation, Book Plaza, Jai Book Distributors, Kushal Book and Unique Book House) who participated in this event. Our books were displayed by other library suppliers as well. A very positive response was received from the participants & the attendees.

We look forward to participate in similar conferences in the future.

100th Indian Science Congress

Taylor & Francis India participated in 100th Indian Science Congress held at University of Calcutta, Kolkata from 3 Jan - 7 Jan 2013. Annual Session of Indian Science Congress has emerged as a major national event and also one of the most prestigious and biggest event of India. The theme selected for the centenary session was “Science for shaping the future of India” which was attended by scientists, academicians and students from across various part of the country. It was a big showcase of our Taylor & Francis Group brand where we displayed our newly published titles in the areas of Pure & Applied sciences like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering and Social Sciences which further highlighted the standards and the quality of our publishing thus perfectly fitting with the growing research and need for quality academic books in Science & technology and social sciences.

The historic 100^th ISC was inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee in the presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India (Also the General President 100th ISC), Hon’ble Chief Minister, Govt. of West Bengal, Hon’ble Governor, State of West Bengal and number of distinguished dignitaries on the dias and thousands of 100th ISC delegates at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on 3rd January 2013.

This was followed by inauguration of the PoI Expo by Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, Hon’ble Minister of Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, GoI. The dignitaries spent considerable time from their busy schedule in the expo and were impressed with the splendid efforts put in by all the exhibitors for the promotion of Science & Technology. 

Spread over an area of approx 12000 sqm, the expo witnessed participation from over 150 organizations from various sectors like R&D Institutes, Academic Institutes, Universities, Innovators, Defence Organizations, Ministries, Government Departments, State Governments, PSU’s, Corporate, International, BFSI etc. The 100th ISC was extensively covered by both national and local electronic and print media. 

Finally on the last day of the event we were presented with a beautiful momento and also a certificate of participation. 

Christmas 2012

On 21 December, T&F India celebrated Christmas with much fanfare and delight. The evening saw everyone gather on the 8th Floor for some fun and food.

The programme kicked-off with a skit by Suchi and Robinson, playing two archangels spreading the message that Jesus is born every minute. Like every year, under Priyamvada’s guidance, there was a carol singing event by Divya, Robinson, Jijo, Suchi, Bincy, Manjari and Anjali, which very much brought in the spirit of Christmas.

This year the T&F India Club organized a cheerful event where everyone got to play Santa Claus. The Secret Santa event invited everyone to come together and be the Santa of somebody in the office. Everyone at T&F India was allotted a person — by drawing chits — to whom they were to play Santa. The club provided everyone with two cards that were to carry Santa’s message. This kept the two helpers of Santa – Jubi and Aldeena — on their toes through the week delivering cards, gifts and chocolates. The name of the Secret Santa was revealed on the day of the main celebrations. This added a lot of thrill to the whole event with everyone waiting to know who their Santa is. Meanwhile, the whole week was filled with excitement with everyone getting gifts and trying to guess their Santas.

The gifting continued with Priyamvada announcing the ‘Research Champions for December’ and the overall ‘Research Champion of Champions – 2012’ (Europa team event).

The celebrations ended with Mr Bhambal’s note to everyone wishing a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Finally, the very fun and exciting week came to an end with a delicious cake, some wonderful food and an echo of a Happy New Year.

Multiple Book Discussion on Wednesday, 12 December 2012

Routledge India Originals organised a multiple book discussion in collaboration with International Research Network on Religion and Democracy on Wednesday, 12 December 2012, at the R. K. Khanna Tennis Complex, New Delhi.

40 participants graced the occasion. They were given a welcome kit comprising:

Section one: Discussed the RIO series: Ethics, Human Rights and Global Political Thought by Aakash Singh Rathore. It constitutes the following titles:

• Conflict Society and Peacebuilding: Comparative Perspectives 
• Wronging Rights?: Philosophical Challenges for Human Rights

Section two dealt with the following title:

Religion, Community and Development: Changing Contours of Politics and Policy in India by Gurpreet Mahajan

Section three was a discussion about Pathfinders series by Dilip Menon, which incorporated the following titles:

• Raja Serfoji II: Science, Medicine and Enlightenment in Tanjore
• M N Roy: Marxism and Colonial Cosmopolitanism
• Veena Dhanammal: The Making of a Legend
• Muhammad Iqbal: Islam, Aesthetics and Postcolonialism

Section four discussed about the title: New Subjects and New Governance in India by Ranabir Samaddar

Section five: Monuments (forthcoming) by Hilal Ahmed

Section six: forthcoming Routledge UK title

Making Sense of Secularism – Ranjan Ghosh
