New Team takes over at the API

The Association of Publishers in India (API), the trade body of global publishers with representation in India, held their AGM and annual elections in September 2015. The new team elected by a comfortable majority comprises Vikas Gupta, MD Wiley India as President, Ratnesh Jha, MD Cambridge University Press as Vice President, Nitasha Devasar, MD Taylor and Francis India as Secretary, Yash Mehta, Director, Macmillan India as Joint Secretary and Sanjiv Gupta, CFO, Penguin-Random House India as Treasurer.

Rohit Kumar, outgoing President, representing Reed Elsevier India from 2013-2015 congratulated the team and welcomed the increased participation from members in the affairs of the Association. To further this, Vikas Gupta incoming President announced the setting up of several sub committees to work collectively on the key concerns of publishing and allied industries including copyright awareness, open access, the challenges to school education, taxation, etc. for both the print and digital domains as well as engaging with the government, trade associations and research bodies.


The API members represent all global publishers who publish in India or have a presence in India. These publishers have contributed to Indian publishing with global best practices, bringing many Indian authors to wider world markets as well as enabling global content to be available in locally, at market competitive prices. To raise awareness of the publishing industry in India the API engaged AG Nielsen to conduct a sizing survey of the industry. The report will be launched during the Frankfurt book fair in mid-October 2015.

Sculpture-Making Contest: Green Week Finale

Hello Everyone,

The last day of the Green Week will be all about Sculptures! The Sculpture – making contest will be held tomorrow (24 September 2015)  between 2:00 – 4:30 pm and will have a total of seven teams competing.

We are looking for BIG art/sculptures that are created out of waste material and on the themes of Green Week. The best wall art/sculptures will adorn the staircase walls as well as the backside garden area outside the office.

Competition Rules

·       We are encouraging larger sized sculptures with waste material so try using a variety of material. The larger the sculpture, the more changes it has of winning.

·       Please do not use your work station for making sculpture to avoid disqualification. Each team will be assigned a space of work in the 3^rd floor Cafeteria.

·       The teams are required to bring their own materials (waste material, glue, tape etc.) for the contest. If the teams require any assistance they can inform the organisers and we would try and arrange the same for you.

·       Write your team’s name on the placards in front of the sculptures.

·       Please clean your assigned space after completion of the sculpture.

The creations will be displayed in the cafeteria post the contest, where all the staff can see the sculptures and cast their votes. The final decision will be taken next week when Nitasha Maam is back in office. The votes and ND's decision will declare the winners. 


There will be 2 prizes for this competition and the TandFers not participating in the contest can also create their own pieces of art (hanging, wind chime etc.) using waste materials, and these will also be displayed along with the sculptures.

We look forward to an amazing event tomorrow and hope to end the Green Week with roaring success!

How Green is My Office?

I am a little Spider plant. That’s my pet name. My ‘good name’ is Chlorophytum comosum. Actually I am Chlorophytum comosum IV, since this is the fourth time my mentor is trying to make me grow. I live or try to live in a small black and white pot on a desk on the 3rd floor of the YMCA Building on the famous Jai Singh Road of New Delhi. And I die very often.

Every time I take a bit of root, some disaster happens to me and I dry out. Like this one time a kind gentleman thought I was dead and kidnapped my pot and took me away and tucked the pot into a dark corner of the pantry. My mentor searched and searched for me for three whole days and by the time I was rescued, I was dead. Or rather that was Spidey II. Spidey I was our true blue ancestor. She was the one who did us proud. Oh, the tales we could sing of her glories!! She was a lush green one. She had long green leaves and was very healthy, but we moved offices and she left the sunshine and daylight and fresh air of Tolstoy House behind and came here. We don’t get much fresh air or day light here you see. I am taken for some walks by my mentor, but all the blinds are drawn and there aren’t many windows that can be opened. Me, along with my other green friends, are set out along a window sill (sealed) for some sunlight during the morning hours), but you see, I need fresh air to grow. I simply must have fresh air to be healthy.

Spidey I died soon after we moved here. I think she missed her friends the pigeons too much, and the blue sky that she could see from her window sill. Spidey II’s sad tale I told you about. Spidey III, my predecessor had just managed to take root and was doing quite well when our mentor went for a holiday. And somehow people forgot to water her. And she withered away. She wasn’t too strong, the poor thing. Now me. I too, was doing quite well, when M went off again on a tour… (she does seem to travel quite a bit.. hmm, maybe that needs to be fixed) and despite plenty of filtered sunlight and water, I just can’t seem to settle down. Can any of you help me please? Tell me what is wrong, how can I drop roots and make this my home?

The Green Week Cyclothon

Today we started the Green Week celebrations with a cyclothon. We chose 14 riders under the mentorship of Ashish Purwar. As the clock struck 7:30, we started from our office premises after clicking some awesome pictures.

The cycle trip route was Office - India Gate - South Avenue. As we started, the first hurdle came in form of a puncture.  Meghal got her bike punctured just few meters away from our office. Ashish promptly repaired the puncture, we headed towards India gate via Ashoka Road in no time. Most of the riders in the group were new to biking but everyone seemed really seasoned. It was a beautiful day. We reached India gate, our stop 1 and clicked some pics.

From India Gate, we biked towards the South Avenue. Although the traffic was getting heavier, we reached the south block and clicked some memorable pictures and videos.

After this, happy in our hearts and proud of what we had achieved, we started our rides back to office. A lovely breakfast was arranged by the office and we felt energized and happy. 

The best part of this experience was that many people got to know about the benefits of cycling. This is also the initiation of the T&F cycling group.
